Decograde Concrete Resurfacing resurfaces tired concrete in Picnic Point, a suburb of parks and bushland on the northern bank of the Georges River. If a slab here has gone patchy, stained or rough underfoot, a new bonded surface can often bring it back without breaking it out. Call (02) 9090 4131 and tell us what you have.
Concrete near the river in Picnic Point
Picnic Point was gazetted as a suburb in 1975 and was originally part of East Hills, according to its Wikipedia entry. In an established suburb, slabs come in every age, from older paths and carports to recent pours. Shaded concrete near trees and garden beds can pick up green film and dark patches.
What we check before quoting
We start by sounding the slab to see whether it is solid. Then we look at cracks, how wide they are and whether they have moved, and at where water runs after rain. Algae, old sealer and oil all stop a new layer from bonding, so we note how much of each is there.
A slab that has sunk or keeps cracking needs its cause fixed first, and we say so before you spend anything.
Send two or three photos of your Picnic Point slab and we will tell you whether resurfacing suits it. Call (02) 9090 4131.
Water, floodplain rules and your slab
Canterbury-Bankstown Council publishes floodplain and stormwater information for the Georges River area, and its pages list a Picnic Point floodplain schedule. If your property is near the river or a low corner, check the council’s flood information before any work that changes levels. Resurfacing adds very little thickness, but drainage still matters because pooled water shortens the life of any finish.

How the job runs
- Inspect the slab and agree the finish.
- Pressure clean and remove sealer, oil and growth.
- Grind or etch, then repair cracks and chips.
- Apply the resurfacing layer and texture.
- Seal and leave to cure to the product’s specification.
The general method is on our concrete resurfacing page. For what moves the price, see the concrete resurfacing cost guide.
When a Picnic Point slab can take a new layer
A slab is a good candidate when it is solid underfoot and the damage is on the face: flaking, staining, wear that has left the surface rough or smooth in patches, crazing, and chipped edges. Hairline cracks that have not changed in years are usually fine once repaired. Heaving, sinking or a crack that opens a little more each season is a different problem, and we will not coat over it.

Finishes we can apply in Picnic Point
The most common route is a spray-on layer in a single colour with a light texture. Stencilled patterns, a coloured border and a pebble-mix finish are also on offer. Each step up in detail adds hours, so we show you the options on samples and tell you what each one does to the estimate before you decide.
Whatever you pick, the surface is sealed and the sealer is named in the estimate.
A Picnic Point slab, step by step
Picnic Point’s wartime past is part of the suburb’s story: the suburb’s Wikipedia entry records an RAAF receiving station and operations bunker in the area during World War II. Today the suburb is mostly homes and parkland. Typical jobs are carports, paths, entries and backyard slabs. We walk each one with you, point out what we find and agree the finish before anything is booked.
If you would like a second opinion on a slab someone else has quoted to replace, we are happy to look at it.

Answers to common questions
Can you resurface concrete that stays damp under trees?
Usually yes, once the cause is dealt with. We clean off the growth, let the surface dry and check where the water comes from before any layer goes on, since damp concrete will not hold a bond.
Do I need council approval to resurface a slab on my own block?
Resurfacing the slab inside your boundary is a surface change, but the strip between your boundary and the kerb belongs to Council. Ring Council before touching that part, and ask us if you are unsure where your boundary falls.
How soon can I walk on a resurfaced slab?
It depends on the product and the weather, so we give you the manufacturer’s times in writing before the job starts. Foot traffic comes first, and vehicles or furniture wait longer.
What does a free estimate in Picnic Point involve?
We look at the slab, measure it, note cracks, stains and drainage, and talk through finishes. You then get a written estimate that lists the preparation, the layer, the sealer and the timing, so you know exactly what you are being asked to approve.
