Decograde Concrete Resurfacing resurfaces the concrete around backyard pools in Panania and Canterbury-Bankstown. A pool surround that turns slippery, stains or starts to flake is a safety problem as well as an eyesore. Concrete resurfacing for a pool deck replaces the worn top layer and puts grip back. Call (02) 9090 4131.

What’s Included

  • An inspection of the surround, the joints and the coping edge.
  • Removal of algae, mould, chalky residue and old coating.
  • Grinding or acid etching of the deck surface.
  • Repair of cracks and chipped edges.
  • A textured resurfacing layer for grip underfoot.
  • Sealing to the manufacturer’s specification.

Grip first: why the finish matters near water

A smooth, wet, sun-faded deck is where people slip. We choose a textured finish for pool surrounds and talk through how coarse you want it. A rougher texture grips better and is harder on bare feet. A finer one is gentler and still gives traction.

Tell us who uses the pool. Small children and older relatives change the answer.

Resurfacing a pool deck versus replacing it

Every resurfacing job starts the same way but does not end the same way. Three real approaches, compared on the factors that decide whether the result lasts.

How We Diagnose a Pool Surround

We check the deck for slope, because water should run away from the pool and the house. We look for hollow spots, cracks that cross the deck and gaps where the concrete meets the coping. We also test for chalky or powdery surfaces, which show up after years of pool chemicals and sun.

When a pool deck turns slippery or starts to flake, the coating has usually failed. If the slab beneath has moved, we explain that before quoting.

Our pool-deck process

The work moves from cleaning and etching to repair, masking of the pool edge, application and sealing. Cure and seal times vary by product system, so we plan the job around when you want the pool back in use and confirm the manufacturer’s schedule in writing.

Coping, joints and the pool edge

The line where the deck meets the pool coping is where resurfacing jobs fail if they are rushed. Expansion joints have to stay as joints, not be coated over solid. We mask the coping, keep product out of the water, and leave movement joints working.

Chemicals, splash-out and sun on the deck

Splash-out carries pool chemicals onto the concrete every time someone swims. Over the years that can leave the surface chalky and dull, and it can break down a coating that was never meant for constant wetting. Sun does the rest, fading colour and drying the surface out.

When we prepare a pool deck we wash it thoroughly and let it dry before any coating goes near it, because a damp or chemically contaminated surface will not hold a bond. The sealer is chosen for outdoor wet areas. The manufacturer’s specification tells us how long the deck must stay dry before it can get wet again.

Before the crew arrives at your pool

Clear the deck of furniture, pots and loose toys, and tell us where the taps, drains and pool equipment sit. We protect skimmer lids and any equipment within reach of the work. Children and pets need to stay off the area until we say it is safe. Mention any earlier paint or coating on the surround, since old paint has to come off before anything new goes on.

Pool deck resurfacing price guide

Textured spray-on stencil finishes across NSW are generally $90-$150 per m² (The Quote Yard, April 2026). That band is a proxy. No source we found publishes a resurfacing price for pool surrounds, and the one pool-surround page we read gave new-build prices only. Treat the range as a starting point for a textured finish, not a quote for your deck.

Area, edge detail and the state of the slab move the figure. The written estimate is the number that counts.

The general process is on the Read more about concrete resurfacing page, and Read more about patio resurfacing covers the entertaining area next to the pool.

Quick answers

How do I get a quote for resurfacing a pool deck?

Call us or send the form with the pool deck’s approximate size, photos of the surface and the coping, and any cracks or flaking. A visit and a written estimate follow. Prices on this page are a guide only.

Can a slippery pool surround be fixed without replacing it?

Often, yes. If the slab is sound, a textured resurfacing layer restores grip. If the deck has moved or the base is failing, replacement may be the safer option and we will say so.

Will resurfacing cover cracks around the pool?

Stable hairline cracks are repaired and covered. Wider cracks, or those that move, can reappear through a new layer, so we check them first.

How soon can the pool be used again?

That depends on the product system, because cure and seal times vary by manufacturer. We confirm the schedule for your job in the written estimate.
